In October 2003, the worst wildfires in California came to pass in San Diego County. The Burning of San Diego takes a closer look at what went down in my neck of the city, and where we are today, two years later.

Tim shares a personal story in his letter on overcoming homelessness:

"...until 5 years ago, you could usually find me panhandling Colfax, in Detox, holding a sign on a street corner, camped under a tree in City Park or even passed out on a sidewalk somewhere."

Grey444 pokes fun at cell-phone bound Gen X'ers in "Roughing it with a Duraflame".

"I was a chubby kid in catholic school. Not popular, very naïve, I was a daydreamer. It was all about GI Joe, the Transformers, and Choose your own Adventure books for me. Friends were never a problem, but it was the overall environment that wasn’t so hot. The girls snubbed me, and I was in and out with the more popular kids. In spite of it all, I survived, but not without a few scars."

Thanks to life taking over a year - in the past 14 months or so, it's been a long time since a story has been posted. To start us off again, here's a story from previous contributer, Thomas Sherdian - The Short Lifespan of a Frankenstein Bicycle.

Grey444 recounts memories of Denver's more down-to-earth bar hoppin scene before all them yuppies moved in.

As the big city has spoken, a recent move to New York City has at last removed me from my beloved homegrown existence to new and exciting things to come. With that comes changes, and so I am letting my fellow City Stories friends and readers know that I will be moving on from DenverStories.com. At the present moment, I am not sure whether or not the site will continue under someone else or if I will regretfully end up shuttering the site. Either way, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of the other cities and their readers, writers and everyone else for keeping the City Story concept alive. I've considered pursuing a New York version, but for now I haven't made up my mind.

Best of luck to all readers, writers, and those responsible for accelerating the idea of city-based story telling.
